It's the Humidity That'll Get Ya!

Here is a short post for today...

I took the day off, not for fun, but to help a brotha out. NiBo is switching roommates and moved from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor of the building next door to his current apartment he's off on Thursdays from work, hence the weekday move. So, drama, mom and I ventured down to the big city to help clean and move. Lucky fasha (dad) had a work excuse not to assist with this move. A few things I observed from today 1- Moving sucks 2- moving sucks even more in the heat!

Of course all the sunshine was wasted during the morning move and by time we got back the clouds had settled in, but in some good news the 2nd annual mini pool paradise is up and running!! Here's a sneak peek...

Later this evening I was digging through the archives to find a good new picture for throw back Thursday, man was that some fun. Mom, drama and I all had more than a few laughs looking back through old pictures. There was a picture of dad wearing some short shorts back in the day, but he said that wasn't allowed, "No dad on throw back Thursday on the blog" well boo hiss, what a spoil sport. I still managed to get him in the picture though, he didn't say anything about family pictures ;)

Keeping with the summer theme, here is our lovely family at the company's Play Day event, this is the good part of the family before it was spoiled with drama and NiBo.. just kidding... but really.. haha I kid, I kid.

This is one of my favorite pictures of just the three of us, I don't know if it's the fake beach background, the cooler of soda, or the fake lobster, but it just makes me smile. (and dad's kinda rockin some short shorts here) Mom's hair and dad's sideburns, I mean do the 80's get any better than this?

Time Flies When You Aren't Working

For real, why does time go so much faster when you aren't working?! This weekend was a busy one!

Saturday: Double Feature at the Drive-In!

I've been making some regular appearance at the drive-in this year so far. You just can't turn down a double feature, two movies for the price of one! NiBo and I met our friends to catch Man of Steel (yes I know, my 2nd time, but NiBo hadn't see it yet and man Superman is hot!) and World War Z. Man of Steel was just as excellent the 2nd time around and World War Z was meh. NiBo has read the book and said the book is way better, and that it's hard to make the book into a movie the way it is set up. That added with the fact that I'm over Brad Pitt and wish he'd cut his hair, I'd say if the Zombie apocalypse came before you saw this movie you wouldn't be missing much. We had a great time and got to stay out late and had lots of laughs with BWurm and CLoo

Sunday: A Taste of the big city

We ventured off to the big city where they have their annual "Taste of" festival. Dad had never been and was a little excited, then a little let down. There wasn't a whole lot of variety, I mean it's no Taste of Chicago. So we had pizza, some crepe's, and some Smoothie King.

Monday: A Day off

Monday I was a lazy butt and took the day off. I took a nap, caught up on some DVR and shopped around town. I bought some shirts and a surprise for this year's Mini Pool Paradise! You'll have to stay tuned to find out!

And Today...
well I had been working on a cute way to display my summer bucket list and then the website crashed and I lost it all, never mind you that I had been working on it for a solid hour :( So I may or may not try again.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

A Throwback Thursday Pic

Here is a lovely throwback picture of A.Drama and I in honor of tomorrow being the first official day of Summer, wow that came fast! After some quick research and a good eye by A.Drama we came to the conclusion that we are holding blow up Figaro cat toys from McDonalds circa early 90's? Since this pool had a built in slide we used to pretend we were Ariel in The Little Mermaid and recreate the rock scene where she splashes the water up, anyway we were pretty awesome at it.

Warrior Dash 2013- A Photo Montage

As promised here are some pictures from Warrior Dash 2013! There were way more obstacles than I have pictured here, mostly because I was saving energy some of them were a little brutal and required a moment or two to catch my breath. But here for your viewing pleasure is the photographic evidence that the Warrior Dash did occur! The obnoxiously bright color shirts were an effort to help the cheer squad/photographers/baggage handlers locate us in the muddy mix of humans crossing the finish line.

Before

The first obstacle- go across a muddy creek

Tons-o-smelly mud to run walk through

The dreaded trenches- thought it would be smoother with the water, it was not, still scraped up my poor knees :(

NiBo (the blue one at the top) conquering an obstacle

First off, sorry this is blurry at this point my new waterproof camera had been through some muddy water. And while it is waterproof it doesn't have a self cleaning front lens, so that is mud spots, my apologies. This obstacle is metal chains that you have to climb up and back over.

NiBo rocked the course finishing like 20 mins before A.Drama and I

Here is A.Drama crossing giving the warrior sign as she crosses, I'm just a smidge behind her

Here I am falling down just across the finish line

A.Drama in front of a pile of shoes to be donated

This is how muddy it was even after we were off the course! Very different from the drought conditions we had last year

Mud covered NiBo

all muddy and done!

In case anyone was wondering about my waterproof camera I used for the race it's a Nikon Coolpix S31. It's waterproof to 16.4ft and shockproof up to 3.9 ft. I don't plan to actually use it for underwater shooting I just got it to have a more rugged camera for messy races and times when I'm around the water and want a little more safety for my camera. If you click the picture it will take you to Target's website where it is currently on sale. They sell it in stores but only have white. Best Buy has it online only for a few dollars cheaper. The picture quality is good as long as you keep the front lens clean, and when you're covered in mud with no clean edge of your shirt it's a little hard to do ;)

10 Things: Warrior Dash 2013

Here is a quick 10 things about today's Warrior Dash to wet your whistle until tomorrow when I feel like uploading my pictures. The important take-away here is that I survived!

* I got free sunglasses and a superman cape! Gotta love freebies
* This year's course was tougher than last year, could have been the mud ratio
* I was 50 seconds slower than last year... at least I'm consistently slow
* I witnessed a girl throwing up and it wasn't me
* Had couple omg Heather needs to get in shape/lose weight moments
* This will probably be my last Warrior Dash unless there are some lbs dropped and in shape gotten
* My new waterproof camera made the trek on the course with me and survived too even through the mud pits
* I got a little bit of sun- face is a smidge redish
* The medal this year doubles as a bottle opener
* I can't believe I paid to do that.

Also Happy Father's Day Dad! Thanks for coming to cheer us on even though it was your Holiday!

He was a great spectator/picture taker this year though!

Drive In Movie: Man of Steel

One of the perks of living in this particular small town is our twin Drive-in theater! Last night we went and saw Man of Steel, the new Superman reboot. EXCELLENT! This superman is way hot, I kinda liked him better scruffy at the beginning of the movie rather than the clean shaven hero type, but that's just me, HOT either way.

Admission in is $7 and I gave the man a $10 bill and this is the change I get, kinda cool. I was waiting in line early because i like to get there early and get a good spot, and my friends from out of town were going to be a little later so I volunteered to wait in line so we could get a good spot then they could just come find me when they got there. Since I had nothing better to do I got in line at 6 and had about 30 mins to waste before the gates opened. Every time I have waited in line I get stuck behind the WT parents of the year. Yelling at their kids to behave and cussing up a story... stay classy. This particular family left their vehicle for a bit to go look for frogs in the crick. Ok cool whatever.

Then I get to my perfect spot and this family of yahoos pulls up next to me, first off they almost hit the pole getting too close as he was backing his pickup truck in and then they continue to be almost the most annoying people there. As I look around there usually aren't too many townies there which I find odd since there isn't much else to do in small town USA. I also notice that it's kind of a WT mecca, I don't know what it is about the drive in but it attracts some interesting people. Don't be those people...

10 things: A few Do's and Don'ts for the drive-in:

- Bring Chairs- this way you have a comfortable viewing spot.
- Bug Spray- Mosquito bites SUCK!
- Blankets- summer nights can get a little chilly sometimes.
- bring a radio-
- In this day and age there is this thing called the internet, most businesses have these things called websites, they tell you information about the place you are going, research a little.
- Don't talk and play on your phone the whole time, it's still dark and it's distracting to others
- Do bring something to do while you wait for the movie to begin- a book, a frisbee, bags
- When exiting please be kind and let at least one car out in front of you.
- Do keep inside your own space, or kindly ask to invade your neighbors airspace. Typically the front of your car is your space.
- Do get your snacks early, the snack bar line is LONG!

Don't forget to have fun and enjoy the movie, you are ultimately there to watch a movie.

Ah swoon...

I Had To

I didn't want to but I had to. I finally gave in and put the window a/c unit in. I feel like I'm abandoning Spring too soon, but Summer is just around the corner and with that brings the heat. Tomorrow the high is 92. Gross. So tonight I shall sleep in less humidity, bought air bliss.

As the heat climbs so does the inside temperature at work. It had been an icebox and I was ok with it, little chilly but ok with it. Then someone had to complain they were too cold and now it's starting to creep up to the stuffy side. I guess I'm going to have to start shaving my legs and break out the capri's and Bermuda shorts, be warned the legs are still transparent white, you might need sunglasses just to look at them.

Also inching closer and closer is this Sunday, not only is it Father's Day but it is also the 2013 Warrior Dash... yikes, that kinda snuck up didn't it?! :S The weather so far promises to be cooler than last year so maybe I won't do as terrible.

Keep cool my friends.

Pre-Monday

Blah, must we return to the workweek so soon? I accomplished very little this weekend. I slept too much (I love naps) I had McDonald's twice (bad!) but I did manage to get out TWICE this weekend to ride bicycles with my parents. I also had doughnuts for breakfast both days and tried the new s'mores blizzard at DQ. Is it any wonder why I have extra weight hanging around?!

I promised to be a better blogger, so you'll at least have a little something new if you go to all the trouble of stopping by. As I spent a better part of my day pinning on Pinterest, I found this ecard that pretty much sums up the week for ya. Hope everyone has a great Monday 1-4 and here's praying we all make it to Friday! :D

Happy Trails To You

My Dear Page Turner,
Do you remember that one time where we...

... Painted Christmas Pottery when it was after Christmas?

... or that time we were caterers at a recycled wedding?

... or to add a little sunshine to our day we had a Hawaiian shirt Thursday?

... what about that time 2009 when Michael Jackson died and we gave him a one glove salute?

... remember when the goose was the CP mascot, then it got held for ransom and adopted to the CSA's?

... or when we had bookclub in your town on that patio at the mansion?

Because I do. I remember all these fun times we've had and all the ones that don't have pictures to caption.

I've tried very hard to remember back to when we first met and became friends. I guess it's kind of cool that I don't remember, that must mean it just came so natural. I'm sure OL took me over to the street one day and I just kept coming back for more. You guys made it look so cool to be a CP (man was I fooled)

I know you won't be far away but I'm sure going to miss you. I'm going to miss the sarcastic IM conversations, who is going to keep my chair warm now during the stand ups?! Who will I go to if there are executor paperwork questions? I'm honestly too young to be going through the retirement of a good pal and I fear your partner in crime won't be far behind, then what will I do? How do you even begin to explain the awesomeness of the two Alice's? How would you even begin to tell that story?

We've shared so many laughs, most of the time at other's expenses, you got me to pick up books again, given solid advice pulled from your wise years, got me started on my blog and you know what? You are irreplaceable. I'm going to miss you.

I hope you had a great last day, I wish Skinny and I's plans to keep you here would have worked a little better. But you've inspired us all that it's never to late to take a chance on happiness and follow your dreams. Good Luck Page Turner and I hope all your sweet dreams come true!

This is going to be hard to look at for a while though, every time I walk by I'll make a bird call in your honor. It'll be hard to fill your seat.... no really, they have to talk to like several people and get corporate to agree that there is a business need to replace you, then it will have to go to a committee to be approved, then there will have to be a posting (with lackluster applicants) and then they will have to interview and take their pulse and make sure they have one before they put in a job offer..... I mean literally, it's going to be hard for them to replace you.

As you ride into your last sunset away from the Farm... Happy Trails Page Turner and best of luck! I'll see ya real soon.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

10 Things: Think Positive Thoughts

I'll be completely honest with you, the above picture is my life 7 hours and 45 minutes everyday, 5 days a week, and it's blah. Add to this already depressing gray world the fact that the Page Turner is abandoning us in just 2 days time and off to play Willy Wonka in her small town and it becomes difficult to find anything to be positive about. But here I give you (scraping from the bottle of the barrel) 10 things: Think Positive.

- I got new pens! They write in different color inks and I had a $1 off coupon hooray!

- I finally beat the stupid Candy Crush level that I had been stuck on for weeks
- Mom and Dad brought me a strawberry pie from McD and an iced tea! :D
- Vacation days renewed on the 1st and I haven't used one yet!
- I get to sleep with the windows open tonight (a nice break from the rain!)
- I have finally recovered from the 'Red Wedding' on Game of Thrones
- My brothers stupid videos on Vine are hilarious.
- I have a jar full of starburst's on my desk. (favorite flavor is Pina Colada)
- OL is going to take me gambling sometime this summer :)
- Tomorrow is food day at work.

Weekend Rewind: Back in Time to WWII

Is anyone else tired of all the stormy storms and constant rain? I'd expect this from April but not May into June, it's almost official summer time which means we should have bountiful sunshine, what the H?! But sometimes rain and storms lead to some beautiful skies. After A.Drama and I spent our Saturday evening at Walmart and had a lovely Arby's dinner, we got stuck in a downpour but managed to see a lovely double rainbow and caught a lovely sunset.

Today we took a muddy trip back in time, where history came alive! We traveled a few cities over to visit a living history reenactment and veterans tribute. Later in the day there were different battle reenactments but dad just wanted to check out the vehicles.

The Allied forces vehicles

The German Camp

Something here does not belong

very very muddy

You always kind of think you have a general idea of what it was like.... yeah no way. It was very cool too see German soldiers riding their motorcycles through the mud up to their camp, it gives you a small small glimpse into what it may have been like.

And while we were in the big big city, we stopped at Bass Pro Shops Hooray!
