Siblings Visit Part 1: Art Museum & Meteor Crater

Sorry for the late post, but I have been pooped after a jam packed, adventure weekend with the Siblings! We seriously crammed a lot of stuff into the three days they were here so I'm going to have to break these posts up so you can see all the great pictures!

Friday: This was the day they arrived! We didn't do too much on this day. We went to the Phoenix Art Museum specifically to see the Hollywood Exhibit. A.Drama had heard the ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz (one of her favorite movies) were there so we just had to check it out! After the Art Museum we headed to the west valley to Margaritaville!

Saturday: This day we saw not one but TWO giant holes in the ground, Meteor Crater and the Grand Canyon.

The Meteor Crater is about 3 hours north of my house, just outside of Winslow Arizona.  This site is home to the world's most preserved meteor impact site. At $18 a person lets not forget that this is a tourist trap, but it's still cool to see for the science of it.

The impact occurred about 50,000 years ago. The meteorite that struck is estimated to be 150 ft across and left a hole that is a mile across and 750 feet deep. You can't go down into the actual crater site (they still study the site for science) but there are several lookout points that you can view it from. The highest viewpoint was crazy windy, so much so that it would knock you off balance!

Like I said, you can't go down into the bottom of the crater so in the little museum they have before you go outside, they have a nice backdrop of what it would look like standing at the bottom!

The sticker reads "I survived the wind at meteor crater"
I'm too cheap to buy ;)

They also had an actual Apollo space test capsule!
Space, something that fell from space... makes sense.

This was just a space in the wall that perfectly framed the desert... it looks like a picture!

This isn't your everyday speed limit sign:
Motor Vehicles 50mph
Meteors 26,000mph

I think NiBo and A.Drama would agree that the best part of the whole trip was the Grand Canyon. We have so many amazing pictures from the Grand Canyon that I think it deserves it's own post. It's so amazing!

Stay tuned for Part II of the great siblings visit to hear all about the Grand Canyon!
